Mitchell High School Principal, Dr. Joe Childs, has announced that the first day of school will be Wednesday,
August 19, 2020. Back to School Day for MHS students will be Wednesday, August 5, from 9:00 a.m. – noon, and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Due to the need for social distancing, students with last names A-L are asked to come from 9:00 a.m. – noon; and students with last names M-Z from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. We also ask that students attend with only parents/guardians who are assisting the students. MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED WHEN ON SCHOOL PROPERTY. A drive-up registration option will be offered on August 6, 2020 (more information can be found below).
Students will receive their class schedule and laptop at this time. Completion of the online Annual Information Update (found in Parent Portal via Infinite Campus) and MHS Student Information Form (found on MHS website) is required before the student can receive their schedule or laptop. Student information packets were mailed to all high school students. If you did not receive the packet, contact the high school office as soon as possible (995-3034). Any form(s) in this packet must be properly completed, signed, and returned to the high school on August 5. Students that are new to the district must provide a copy of a birth certificate and an immunization record.
A locker will be assigned to any student who desires one. A deposit fee of $5 will be charged for the locker key. A $10.00 fee will be charged for replacement keys.
Student pictures will also be taken on August 5. All students must have their picture taken for student IDs. If a student is unable to attend registration, picture make-up day will be Wednesday, September 16.
Hot lunches will be served on the first day of school. The cost per lunch at the high school is $3.00 for students; the cost for breakfast is $2.00.
Activity passes for school sponsored activities for the 2020-2021 school year will be sold for $40.00 for students in grades K-12.
All checks should be made payable to Mitchell School District. It is requested that two separate checks be written for activity passes and lunch account payments. Debit cards and credit cards will NOT be accepted.
We will also be offering the option of drive-up registration on Thursday, August 6 from 9:00 a.m. – noon for those who are planning to participate in e-Learning in the Fall or require extra social distancing. Students and/or parents will need to call the Mitchell High School office (605-995-3034) to schedule a time. Completion of the online Annual Information Update must complete prior to this time. Students will then be able to pick up their class schedule and laptop.
Orientation for freshmen and new students will be held at the MHS Performing Arts Center on Wednesday evening, August 5, at 7:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for ninth graders and new students, along with their parents, to become familiar with the school building and to ask any questions they might have. A virtual version of the orientation will be available on the Mitchell High School website.
There will also be two sessions of the fall activities meeting on Tuesday, August 4 and Thursday, August 6, both at 7:00 p.m. at the MHS Performing Arts Center. There will also be a virtual version of the meeting on the activities website: www.MitchellKernels.com on Friday, August 7.
